The Smart Energy Consumer Collaborative (SECC) , formerly the Smart Grid Consumer Collaborative, is a nonprofit organization that works to learn the wants and needs of energy consumers in the United States, encourage the collaborative sharing of best practices in consumer engagement among industry stakeholders and educate the public about the benefits of the smart grid and related energy programs.
Consumer Energy Data at the 2018 Consumer Symposium
Each year at DistribuTECH, SECC hosts its one-day Consumer Symposium, a unique event that dives into the issues shaping the utility-customer relationship now and in the next several years. The 2018 edition on Monday, 22 January will feature a keynote address from Felecia Etheridge, Chief Customer Engagement Officer at CPS Energy, and several panel sessions, including an interactive discussion on consumer energy data moderated by the Green Button Alliance. The energy data panel, entitled "Enabling Consumers with Access, Choice and Control of Their Energy Data" will feature speakers from the Ontario Ministry of Energy, Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) and Tendril.
During this session, panelists will cover best practices for enabling access to consumer energy data that also ensure privacy and security. The discussion will be highly interactive, with audience polling and opinion playing a significant role, and will address the foremost issues around consumer energy data access and sharing today. The complete one-day agenda can be found here.

Giving a Voice to Energy Consumers through Research
On behalf of its 140-plus members, SECC conducts timely, shared-cost research that explores consumers' wants and needs and their understanding of how they stand to benefit from grid modernization. In 2017, the organization published six reports, including an update of its flagship "Consumer Pulse and Market Segmentation Study", the industry's longest-running analysis of consumers' knowledge of and attitudes toward the smart grid, smart meters and related products and services. Future reports will cover consumer preferences on utility-led, e-commerce platforms and an assessment of the wants and needs of small-and-medium business consumers.
