Organization Overview
The City of Sault Ste. Marie is a continental leader in green and renewable energy and was recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy as one of 16 North American cities leading the way to cut carbon pollution, deploy more clean energy, and increase energy efficiencies for its citizens.
Sault Ste. Marie is also a place of cultural significance and is traditionally know as Bawating ("the place of the rapids"). The city acknowledges with respect, that it is in Robinson-Huron Treaty territory, that the land is the traditional territory of the Anishinaabe and known as Bawating. Bawating is the home of Garden River First Nation, Batchewana First Nation, and the Historic Sault Ste. Marie Métis Council.
